The USSR continues its expansion into the developing world, with its latest target being the small Southeast Asian nation of Lamang. After two decades of independence and progress, the country descended into turmoil when a rebel faction known as the Sons of Lamang seized power in 1968 following a brief civil war. Their rise was swift and brutal: political opponents executed, dissent silenced, and democratic institutions dismantled.

The faction's leader, Raksmei Sayavong, has since declared himself President and rebranded the country as the Democratic Republic of Lamang - a title that does little to hide the regime's authoritarian nature.

It is now all but confirmed that the Soviet Union supported this violent takeover from the very beginning. Without Moscow's backing, the rebels could never have toppled the legitimate government so quickly. That investment is already paying off, as reports of Soviet-funded construction projects on Lamang reach U.S. forces currently aiding the fight for freedom in Vietnam.

One can only hope, and pray, that the people of Lamang will one day rise against their oppressors and return to the community of free nations.

Viet Cong Hiding in Neighboring Countries

Growing concerns point to the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army using sanctuaries in Cambodia. Tensions are rising along the border as the conflict shows no signs of slowing.

Interview - General Thomas C. Waters

Q: General, can you tell us what exactly happened in Lamang?

A: During the civil war, the Soviets supplied the Sons of Lamang with weapons and resources. With that support, the rebels quickly overthrew the legitimate government. In return, the new regime has begun openly cooperating with Moscow.

Q: Do we know what is being built there?

A: Nothing good, that much is clear. We suspect a radar facility, most likely for intelligence-gathering and surveillance aimed at our operations in Vietnam.

Q: Will the United States be taking any action?

A: If you're asking whether we intend to invade Lamang, the answer is no. That's not on the table. Our focus is elsewhere at the moment. But rest assured, we'll be monitoring them very closely.

Q: Thank you for your time, General.

A: The pleasure is mine.
