The Democratic Republic of Lamang is struggling to contain the rapid spread of COVID-19. Reports suggest thousands have died and many more are infected.
"I can guarantee you we have no issue with this so-called disease. If you in the West are having a problem, that's on you; don't project it onto us. We're completely fine," said Vice President Jan Park in response to our questions.
The true scale of the crisis in Lamang is difficult to determine, but given the regime's track record in handling emergencies, it's safe to assume they are facing serious problems.
Poland Invades Czech Republic!
For several days, a small Czech chapel near the Czech-Polish border was inadvertently occupied by the Polish army.
Once higher authorities became aware of the situation, they promptly issued an apology and withdrew from Czech territory.
Interview - Patricia Bell, Ph.D.
Q: Dr. Bell, what can you tell us about the current situation in Lamang?
A: It seems the Lamangese government has badly underestimated the threat of COVID-19. In that sense, it's quite similar to North Korea. They'll almost certainly blame the outside world for their own mistakes and lack of preparation. Sadly, it's the ordinary people who will bear the consequences.
Q: Do you think they'll ask for help?
A: No, they won't. Authoritarian regimes like Lamang's must project strength at all times. And even if, by some miracle, they accept assistance, they'll present it as if it were their own act of generosity.
Q: Do you expect many casualties in Lamang?
A: Unfortunately, yes. Lamang has never had a large population, and this outbreak could further reduce the already small number of inhabitants.
Q: Thank you for sharing your insights, Dr. Bell.
A: You're very welcome.
