As we get closer to the spring release of the Winds of War update, it’s time to take a look at what’s coming. Our last devlogs went over the big Quality of Life improvements and all the new weapons and gear on the way. Now, we’re shifting focus to the evolving world of Lamang and how it’s about to change. A dev said in a pod cast.
At its core, Gray Zone Warfare is all about immersion. From the start, we’ve aimed to create a living, breathing world that feels unpredictable and intense. The day and night cycle was just the beginning with Update 0.3, we’re introducing a brand-new dynamic weather system and over 60 new points of interest that make exploring the island feel even more real and rewarding.
The Island Is Changing
With every major update, the world of Lamang grows and changes and this one is no different. Winds of War adds over 60 new locations across the map. Each one is purposefully designed to expand the game’s atmosphere and push the storytelling further. Whether it’s a construction site, a hilltop restaurant, a poppy field, or even a strip club, these areas add visual variety and new tactical situations.
Some older locations have also been updated. Familiar places might feel different now a piece of cover you relied on before might be gone, forcing you to adapt and stay alert. Along with the new spots, we’ve added hidden loot crates throughout the map. Combined with ongoing loot system improvements, this makes exploration feel more worthwhile — the gear you find is actually useful and something you’ll want to keep.
Combat Outposts Are Here
A major feature in this update is the introduction of Combat Outposts (COPs). These are strategic points scattered across Lamang that can be captured and used by your faction. Once secured, they act as forward bases — giving you access to vendors, resupplies, and respawns without needing to head back to base.
There are 36 new outposts, with a mix of smaller, easier ones and larger, more fortified ones. In PvEvP (Warfare mode), holding a major COP means better defense and area control. In PvE (Joint Operations), any faction can capture and use the same outpost at the same time, turning them into shared safe zones.
Meet Vulture The Black Market Vendor
Some of these major outposts come with something special: access to a mysterious new vendor known as Vulture. Secure one of these key outposts, and you’ll unlock his stash of rare and black-market gear. Vulture isn’t here to help anyone he’s an opportunist who built his underground business before Lamang fell apart, and now he’s thriving in the chaos. His inventory is made up of gear lost by PMCs on difficult missions. If someone dropped it and you’ve got the money, it’s yours.
These Vulture-access outposts rotate regularly, but they’re the same on all servers, so you’ll know where to look if you’re quick enough.
A Real Weather System Is Here
We’re stepping things up with a fully dynamic weather system. Until now, the biggest environmental shift was the day/night cycle but Winds of War takes it to a whole new level. Expect 11 different weather types, ranging from clear skies to heavy mist, thunderstorms, and everything in between.
In this first version, weather changes across the entire island at once, but in future updates we plan to localize it so one town might be sunny while another is getting soaked in a downpour.
Every weather pattern is built with real-life data pulled from Southeast Asia, thanks to a partnership with weather experts at Meteosource. We’ve created over 80 different weather “schedules,” each lasting three in-game days and changing over time just like the real world.
Weather That Affects Gameplay
This isn’t just visual fluff the weather system changes how you play. Rain now forms puddles, muddies the terrain, and even floods rice fields. It affects your gear, your movement, and your visibility.
Scopes can fog up, your vision might get blurred by raindrops, and wet clothes will drag down your stamina. High humidity and heat will make you thirstier faster, and lightning strikes can literally reveal your position in the open. Gear like helmets, caps, and glasses now matter even more, offering protection from the elements and visual interference.
And we’re just getting started. In the future, we’re planning more extreme weather effects like seasonal changes, typhoons, flooding that blocks paths, and even weather that affects your bullets and ballistics.
The Island Sounds Different Now Too
We’ve overhauled ambient audio to match the new environments and weather. Sounds like wind, rain, and thunder now react to your surroundings, sometimes masking enemy movements or alerting you to danger. You’ll hear footsteps splash through flooded ground or distant thunder rolling in before a storm.
Animals and wildlife have also been updated — they now behave more realistically and react to changes in weather. Sometimes they’ll go quiet; other times, you’ll hear them more clearly depending on the situation.
